On the Move: The Attic will re-open in new location next week

The Attic, which has served customers for several years from its storefront at 110 W. Morrison on the square in Fayette, is on the move.

The thrift boutique is scheduled for a soft opening at its new location at 201 North Main Street (across East Davis from Commercial Trust) next Monday.

“It won’t be perfect, but it doesn’t have to be,” said Endless Options Executive Director Deb Miller of the newly renovated space. “I don’t have the date, but in June, we’ll have a grand opening. They still have a lot of little finishing things to do while we’re moving (this) week, but I think we’re going to make it.”

The new location, owned by Frank and Katie Flaspohler, has been undergoing renovations for the past several months.

One of the standout features of the newly refreshed interior is its maple floors. “Katie got them done,” Miller said, referring to Katie’s work finishing the floors. “We’re going to be super careful when we move stuff in so we don’t gouge them.”

The floors aren’t the only eye-catching update. The south and west-facing windows let light spill into the space.

“I don’t remember Mattingly’s,” a former incarnation of the location, “having those giant windows,” said Miller. “I think the renovation uncovered them. The light is just phenomenal.”

The original red letter signage from the Mattingly’s store is also present on the wall, a nod to the locale’s heritage.

Miller said Gary and Sara Bagby had managed to preserve them and presented them to the Flaspohlers when they took over the space.

This week, volunteers are busy helping with the move. Miller said she had volunteers from the Isle of Capri Casino slated to help out Tuesday, local Rotarians rolling up their sleeves today, and Central Methodist University athletes may be chipping in tomorrow.

While all this is happening, Miller is also pulling together the final preparations for Endless Options’ block party, to be held Saturday.

“We’re having an awareness walk, which we haven’t done in two years,” Miller said.

The event will include a fundraiser at 200 Furr Street, where the Attic will accept donations after May 4 and will include a vendor fair, food trucks, and kids’ activities.

Miller is thrilled to welcome the community to the Attic’s soft opening next week and asked that people hold their donations until the 4th.

She also emphasized that donations will not be taken at the new store location on Main Street, but instead can be brought to their Furr Street location 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, or by appointment.
