Looking on are Brittany Sullivan of Sullivan Farms, Shane Wells and Jayce Hall.It may have been the word “party” that triggered the enthusiasm, but for whatever reason, Daly Elementary kindergartners yelled “Yaaaaay!”  when Kelly Beeler, school nurse, told them, “We’re going to have a salad party!”

Fayette Farmers Market vendors Jamie Bryant, Brittany Sullivan and Joseph Slattery provided seeds, potting soil, biodegradable cups, and labeling sticks so that each kindergartner, first grader and second grader could plant a sugar snap pea, radish or lettuce seed in biodegradable cups on Thursday. When sprouted, the plants will be transplanted to the school garden planned to be established on the south side of the school.

Slattery said, “We want to show these kids that gardening is fun and that what you can get from a garden tastes good.”
