Santa Fe Trail Days

Early crowds were slightly thinner than usual on Saturday morning at the annual Santa Fe Trail Days held in downtown New Franklin. Rain and cloudy skies, along with packed schedules around the area kept attendance somewhat light. But that turnout grew in the afternoon as the sun made an appearance.

The parade was once again a crowd-pleaser. Members of the local Howard County Fire Protection District, along with New Franklin High School softball and baseball teams, girls scouts, the Howard County Teen and Queen, and the marching band were features of the parade that wound its way through downtown Saturday afternoon.

Highlights of the two-day event include the parade, a baby and little Mr. and Mrs. contest, a log sawing contest, a dunk tank, bounce houses, a beer garden, and live music. A burn circus was also featured both nights.

Broadway Street was packed with vendors selling an array of interesting items and food.
