Stidham files for Mayor of Fayette

Served as Mayor and Alderman from 2014-2020

Former Fayette Mayor Greg Stidham wants to give it another go. He made his candidacy official on the first day of the filing period that opened on December 5.

Current Fayette Mayor Jeremy Dawson told this newspaper he will not seek a second term.

A Fayette native, Stidham holds an MBA from Central Missouri State University.

He served as an Alderman on the city council from 2014 to 2018, before winning a four-way race for mayor in 2018 and served one term until May 2020.

Stidham announced he would not seek a second term because he planned to relocate to the Kansas City area.

Instead of ending his term in April, he stayed on an extra month and a half because the municipal election had been delayed until June because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He returned to Fayette last year and is currently President of the Fayette Rotary Club.

Elsewhere on the city council, Northwest Ward Alderwoman Michelle Ishmael will seek a second term.

Both incumbents on the Fayette Board of Education have indicated they will not seek re-election. Matt Hudson and John Stroupe are nearing the end of their second terms.

Former Fayette teacher Lisa Shrum has filed for one of the vacant seats. School board terms are for three years.

No candidates have filed for either the city council or school board seats in Glasgow.

In Armstrong, incumbent Mayor Jackie Kurtz filed, and Alderman Korey Wood have filed for re-election.

Incumbents Kirk Wilmsmeyer and Alan Marshall have filed for re-election to the New Franklin Board of Education. As of Monday, nobody has filed for city offices.

Incumbents Bethann Enochs and Josh Stephenson have filed for fresh terms on the Harrisburg Board of Education.

Newcomer Laura Maupin filed for one of two open seats on the Higbee Board of Education. So far, neither incumbent has filed for re-election.

The filing period ends at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26. Candidates must file with the entities to which they seek election and must reside inside the city, ward, or school district to which they seek office.
