The people were killed in separate single-car crashes on Howard County roadways on Saturday.

A Moberly man was arrested after an early-morning car crash on MO 124 in Howard County left his passenger dead. David S. Brown, 42, was arrested for driving while intoxicated involving the death of another.

Dead is 39-year-old Joshua McNabb from St. Louis. He was the passenger in a 2011 Honda CRV driven by Brown.

According to a report by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the two men were westbound on MO 124 near County Road 409, just west of north Route A, when the vehicle failed to navigate a corner, ran off the left side of the road, impacted a ditch, and overturned. The crash occurred shortly before 2 a.m.

McNabb was pronounced dead at the scene by Howard County Coroner Trisha Clark at 3:04 a.m.

Brown was arrested but was released to receive medical attention. He was taken to University Hospital in Columbia by Howard County EMS with moderate injuries.

Neither man was wearing a seatbelt, according to the patrol.

As of Tuesday morning, no charges have been filed against Brown in Howard County court.

Later around 4 p.m. that afternoon, Dennis E. Klatt, 65, New Franklin, was killed in a one-vehicle crash on Highway 5 near Snoddy’s Store.

According to the patrol’s report, Klatt’s 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, then ran off the left side of the roadway where it struck a trailer parked in a private lot.

Klatt was pronounced dead on the scene by Coroner Clark at 6:12 p.m.

The Howard County Sheriff’s department assisted the patrol in both crashes.

The fatal crashes mark the fifth and sixth for December and the 50th of the year for MSHP Troop F.
