The Central Methodist track & field team will add two more Yellowjackets to its roster next year as Dawson Yung and Zy’Shonne Cowans signed with the Eagles on Wednesday, March 11.

As a junior last season, Yung helped Glasgow win a conference track & field championship with a first-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles at the CAC meet. Yung also finished second in the 110-meter hurdles and ran with a first-place 4x100-meter relay.

Yung said that the track and field coaching staff at CMU can help him reach his potential.

“It’s a good fit for me because the people and coaches on the team are all so welcoming and want to succeed in the sport,” he said. “I know that the coaches will push me to be the best athlete I can.”

Yung plans to study elementary education at CMU in the fall.

“It is going to be a great fit for me,” he said about the school. “When I went on a visit everyone was so welcoming and nice. I also liked how it felt like a second home to me.”

Cowans also brings experience to the Eagle distance squads. He medaled four times during the Yellowjackets conference championship track & field meet, and was the highest area finisher at the Class 1 state cross country meet in the fall.

Cowans said that the cross country and track programs at CMU will be a good fit.

“I know the coaches and athletes on my team will push me to become a better runner and to be the best that I can be,” he said. “The coaches also want me to excel in the sports that I take such pride and spend time in as well.”

Cowans in undecided on a major, but is planning to study either education, English, or psychiatry.

“CMU takes great pride in its academics and making sure that those students succeed during and after college,” Cowans said.
“I loved the atmosphere and environment whenever I visited the campus. It’s very friendly, it’s a great environment to be around, and it’s a good size campus for me, too.”

Other Glasgow alums on the Eagles current roster include junior Hayden Hackman, sophomore Kristin Stockhorst, as well as freshmen Teagan Howell and Alyssa Yung.
