To the Editor:
I’m writing this letter to clear up the misconceptions about who the Fayette City Marshal reports to. For the past several years, for some reason, people believe that the Fayette City Marshal reports only to the citizens of Fayette. Leading up to the election last week, people were touting the autonomy of the Fayette City Marshal. That the City Marshal is an autonomous position. The previous three sentences couldn’t be farther from the actual reporting responsibilities of the Fayette City Marshal.
Please read the following Fayette City Ordinance:
Section 120.570. Report To City Administrator.
[R.o. 2013 S 120.570; R.O. 2005 S 2-63; Ord. No. 20.096 S 10]
“He/she shall report directly to the City Administrator and/or a person designated by the Mayor and/or the Board of Aldermen concerning any personnel or City-related problems and keep the City Administrator informed of happenings that affect the City.”
The City Administrator reports to the Board of Aldermen. The duties and responsibilities of the Fayette City Marshal are spelled out in Chapter 120 Article VII of the city ordinances. All city ordinances are listed on the City of Fayette’s website. The ordinances do not mention any autonomy of the City Marshal position. So, if you hear that the City Marshal is an autonomous position, please have them read the actual city ordinances governing the City Marshall position.
Sincerely,
Pat Roll
Northwest Ward Fayette Board of Aldermen
