The Boonesboro Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will host a Homecoming Celebration at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, October 20, marking 156 years of service.
Located in southern Howard County near the Missouri River, the church became a separate entity in 1868. Before then, its founders had been among a group of 99 persons who, in 1850, held services in a log chapel built on land deeded by Robert Hampton Turner for a church and cemetery. Mr. Turner was a “landowner and merchant in the booming town of Boonesboro.” For many years, it was a union church that included Methodists, Christians, Baptists, and Cumberland Presbyterians.
After the Civil War, the decision was made to separate from the union congregation. It has been in continuous service since that time as the Boonesboro Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Over the years, this church has made many improvements, including modern heating and cooling systems, a large basement dining area with a modern kitchen, and appliances and bathrooms. A new roof and basement update are recent improvements.
Current pastor Randy Rob conducts weekly services at 10:45 each Sunday.
Those with pictures and memories are encouraged to share them at the upcoming celebration. For more information, contact Lois Crowley at (660) 848-2675 or Linda Maurine at (660) 888-2546 or brybma@yahoo.com.
