The Clark Middle School Falcons opened the season with back-to-back wins at home. On Tuesday, September 8, Fayette shut out Richmond 38-0 in the first game under new head coach Matt Hudson.
The Falcons took the field with just 15 eligible players.
“This was a nice opening win for us,” Hudson said. “Since we have been unable to scrimmage, we weren’t sure how we would respond.”
Knox Howell, Easton Roberts, Rylan Vroman, Peyton Newell, and Wren Spaeder all scored for the Falcons. Kaleb Nation led the team in receiving yards.
The defense, led by a stout line of Matthew Shiflett, Rial Boulden, and Kyle Allphin, dominated Richmond, allowing only two first downs all night.
The Falcons picked up a solid Central State 8 win over Harrisburg at home on September 14, fending off a late rally by the Bulldogs to win 30-20.
Harrisburg scored first to take a quick 6-0 lead, but Faye had answered with a touchdown and a two-point conversion to go in front 8-6.
The Falcons then outscored Harrisburg by two touchdowns before the mid-game break to take a 24-12 lead with 15 seconds remaining in the first half. Fayette then scored on the opening drive of the second half to take a comfortable 30-2 lead.
Harrisburg scored once more to cut the margin to 10 points.
“The resiliency of this team showed up against Harrisburg,” Hudson said. “We could've dropped our heads and never recovered after they scored so quickly, especially considering they were a much larger team. We dug in and stayed with our game plan and finished strong.”
On Monday, the Falcons scored two first-quarter touchdowns on the way to a 20-0 Central State 8 shutout over South Callaway. Fayette travels to Russellville next Monday for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
