The Central Methodist men’s basketball team opened the 2025-26 season with a pair of wins over the weekend at the Chick-fil-A Classic in Bellevue, Neb. The Eagles started with a convincing 95-78 victory over the Hastings Broncos on Friday and knocked off Haskell Indian Nations University 96-68 on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles unleashed a balanced scoring attack against Hastings on Friday, with six players reaching double figures. Isaiah Reams led the way with 18 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists. He also added two steals and a block to his stat line. Davion Guity finished the evening with 16 points off the bench, including four 3-point baskets. Raphael Gay added 12 points, while Kevin James and Kylen Smith tallied 11 each. Isaiah Bonaparte rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.
Central was efficient in all three phases of shooting, converting 54.8 percent from the floor, 46.4 percent from arc, and 77.8 percent from the free-throw line.
Additionally, the Eagles dominated the glass, outrebounding the Broncos, 46-24. Austin Prater led Central’s rebounding efforts with a game-high 12 boards.
On Saturday, the Eagles again shot extremely well from all areas of the floor, converting 53.2 percent from the field, 44.4 percent from 3-point range, and 85.7 percent from the charity stripe.
Raphael Gay led the Eagles in scoring with 23 points on 9-for-11 shooting. He also added four rebounds, three steals, and an assist.
Tommie Williams tallied 19 points, which included three triples. Additionally, Williams grabbed four rebounds, dished out four assists, and recorded three steals.
Isaiah Reams rounded out the double-digit scorers with 16 points while shooting a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line.
Kylen Smith nearly cracked double figures with nine points while matching Williams with three 3-pointers.
Austin Prater had a balanced night for Central, scoring seven points and grabbing a team-high nine rebounds.
As a team, CMU controlled the glass, grabbing 41 rebounds compared to just 31 for Haskell.
The Eagles will next compete in the KWU Classic, beginning with a Halloween matchup against Bethel at 4 p.m. on Friday in Salina, Kan. CMU closes the Classic with a Saturday matchup at 6 p.m. against Kansas Wesleyan.
Central debuts at home next Thursday, November 6, with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff against area rival Columbia College.
