On Thursday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced an up to $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Hollis C. Vanleer, Jr. for charges related to the robbery of the Isle of Capri Casino in Boonville, Mo. on March 25.
The Advertiser reported in March that Vanleer and Benjamin Michael-Dass Charles, 21, of Columbia, a casino employee, entered the riverboat casino at approximately 2:13 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25. They were wearing masks, sunglasses, and black clothing. One was armed with a rifle and one with a handgun. They went directly to the vault and stole approximately $1,276,000. While fleeing the casino floor, a casino patron tackled the suspect carrying the rifle, and a fight ensued. The second suspect struck the patron numerous times, allowing the suspects to exit the property.
The two men fled across the river into Howard County, where a chase ensued. The getaway car, an older model tan Ford Taurus, was found abandoned, and law enforcement officers said they fled the area in another vehicle.
Charles pled not guilty in April to charges of First-Degree Robbery, Armed Criminal Action, and Tampering with Physical Evidence in a Felony Prosecution.
The FBI’s Kansas City Field Office is assisting the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Cooper County Sheriff’s Office in Missouri with the search for Vanleer.
On April 14, 2026, Vanleer, Jr. was charged with First Degree Robbery, Armed Criminal Action, and First-Degree Assault in the 18th Judicial Circuit Court, Cooper County, Missouri, and a state warrant was issued for his arrest.
Vanleer is described as a black male, and approximately 6’1” with black hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoo on his left hand. He may have ties to Chicago and Normal, Illinois. Anyone with information concerning this case is asked to contact the FBI’s Kansas City Field Office at (816) 512-8200 or the Missouri State Highway Patrol at (573) 751-1000, or submit a tip online at tips.fbi.gov.
