Fall practices opened for high school sports across the state last week, and teams will get their final tune-ups before their respective season openers.
First up is the annual football jamboree hosted by Central Methodist University. Fayette, Harrisburg, Salisbury, and North Callaway will step onto Davis Field for the first looks at their teams against live competition.
Both Fayette and Harrisburg will be under new leadership. The Falcons will begin their season under veteran coach Kenny Grubb. The Bulldogs will take the field under new head coach Parker Howard.
Both teams open the 2026 season next Friday, August 28. Fayette will travel to Carrollton, while Harrisburg opens the season at home against South Shelby.
On the softball diamond, Fayette and Glasgow will travel to Harrisburg on Tuesday for the Bulldogs’ jamboree. The Falcons open the season at the Boonville Tournament on Saturday, August 29. The same day, Harrisburg will compete in the Hallsville Tournament. Glasgow kicks off the 2026 season at Community on Monday, August 31. The first pitch is at 5 p.m.
New Franklin hosts Higbee and Sturgeon for a pre-season softball jamboree starting at 5 p.m. on August 25. New Franklin opens the season at the Boonville Tournament next Saturday, August 29.
Higbee will open its season at home against Bucklin with Macon County on Friday, August 28. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
