The Glasgow boys won, and the girls’ team took second in the annual Glasgow Relays on Friday afternoon.
The Yellowjackets tallied 99 points to claim the top spot among 18 boys teams. New Franklin placed fifth, with Fayette taking 11th and Higbee coming in 13th. In girls’ action, the Lady Jackets finished only one point behind first-place Westran with 140.33 total points. New Franklin placed sixth in front of ninth-place Fayette. Higbee tied for 14th among a field of 15 teams.
Boys Field Events
In the boys’ discus, Fayette senior Carter Vroman placed first overall with a distance of 49.61m. Glasgow senior Jackson Meyer finished runner-up with a score of 42.26m. Junior Jacob Simpson also tallied points for the Yellowjackets with a seventh-place throw of 32.69m.
Glasgow junior Kyler Kottman took second place in the boys high jump, clearing 1.80m. Higbee senior Danny Janssen tied for third with a score of 1.70m.
Vroman took the day off from the javelin competition after winning the day before in the Central State 8 Conference meet. Meyer took third place in a tight top-three grouping with a throw of 41.06m. Janssen placed fourth with a toss of 39.90m.
Meyer claimed his third medal of the day with a runner-up finish in the shot put, scoring with a distance of 12.17m.
Area competitors claimed three out of the top four places in the boys long jump. New Franklin Senior Landon Shaw finished runner-up (6.30m) in front of Fayette senior Zane Spaeder (5.85m) in third place and Kottman from Glasgow (5.81m) in fourth place. Janssen added a seventh-place score for Higbee (5.45m).
Shaw won the triple jump with a leap of 12.76m. DeMint placed third for Glasgow (11.36m), in front of freshman teammate Ethan Thies in seventh place (9.85m).
Glasgow claimed two medals out of six finishers in the pole vault. Junior Jaden DeMint won the event, clearing 3.30m. New Franklin freshman Hayden Davis tied for second with a vault of 3.15m. Glasgow senior Seth Monnig finished fourth overall with a height of 2.85m.
Boys Running Events
Glasgow freshman Hayden Minor placed fourth overall in the 110m hurdles (18.95), and Fayette junior Landon Ploof was sixth (19.92). Janssen finished runner-up in the 300m hurdles (45.15) in front of Minor (46.38) in third place, Higbee senior Breayson Harlon (50.90) in seventh place, and Thies in eighth (54.63).
DeMint narrowly finished in the points in the 200m, claiming eighth place (25.98).
Shaw claimed his third medal of the day for New Franklin with a fourth-place finish in the 400m (55.41).
Two area runners earned medals in the 800m. Glasgow junior Joshua Sayler finished fourth (2:08.08), and Davis placed seventh for New Franklin (2:18.24). Sayler also placed third in the 1600m (4:48.38). New Franklin freshman Ryder Dorson placed fifth (4:59.68).
In relay events, Fayette placed third overall (47.46) in the 4x100m. Glasgow placed eighth (52.61). Glasgow also placed seventh in the 4x200 (1:47.52) and fifth in the 4x400m (3:58.53). New Franklin took third overall in the 4x400m (3:52.15) and handily won the 4x800m relay with a time of 8:56.85. Glasgow finished runner-up in the 4x400m (9:16.24).
Girls Field Events
Three area girls won medals in the discus competition. Glasgow junior Aly Prentzler finished third overall (29.56m). Fayette freshman Ameillia Maddox finished seventh (24.91m) and Higbee sophomore Shyanna DeWeese took eighth (24.74m).
In the high jump, Glasgow sophomore Riley Olendorff and New Franklin sophomore Belle Chitwood tied for second after both cleared 1.45m. New Franklin junior Rowan Lemberger placed sixth overall (1.40m) and Glasgow senior Hailey Monnig finished seventh (1.35m).
In the throwing events, Monnig finished runner-up in the javelin (31.56m). Fayette sophomore Adri Barney took seventh (25.68), in front of freshman teammate Jayden Barnhill (24.13) in eighth.
New Franklin senior CannaRassa Jennings won the shot put by more than a meter, leading 31 throwers with a winning toss of 10.23m. Sophomore teammate Hadley Caszatt finished fourth (8.79), and Fayette’s Maddox placed eighth (7.90).
Three area athletes won three medals in the long jump. New Franklin freshman Kallie Burnett placed fifth overall (4.44m). Glasgow freshman Kenley Strodtman placed fifth (4.41m) and Monnig placed eighth for the Jackets (4.34m).
In the triple jump, Glasgow junior Aynslie Locke placed fourth overall (9.51m) and freshman teammate Alliyah Monnig placed seventh (9.27).
Rounding out the girls field events, Glasgow claimed two medals in the pole vault. Strodtman placed sixth overall (4.41m) and Hailey Monnig finished eighth (4.34m). Burnett placed fifth overall for New Franklin (4.44m).
Girls Running Events
In the sprints, Glasgow sophomore Maddyn Staton placed fourth overall (14.02), in front of New Franklin Junior Kinsley Keeton in seventh (14.40). Staton also placed fourth in the 200m with a time of 29.39.
Glasgow freshman Kamryn Kottman narrowly won the 400m with a time of 1:04.06. Fayette senior Browyn Eubanks placed sixth (1:06.39), and Glasgow senior Halle Fuemmeler finished seventh (1:06.88).
Eubanks, the winner of the state gold medal two years ago in the 300m hurdles, did not compete in either of the hurdle events on Friday after winning both the day before at the CS8 Conference meet. Glasgow claimed two medals in the 100m hurdles. Prentzler placed fourth (17.88), and freshman Brenna Adams finished fifth (19.25). Fayette freshman Kyria Monckton finished eighth overall (21.11).
In 300m hurdle action, Prentzler placed sixth overall (58.66), Monckton placed seventh (1:00.81), and Oldendorff finished eighth (1:06.36).
Leading off the distance races, New Franklin senior Lily Chitwood won the 800m with a time of 2:35.63. Adams claimed third for Glasgow (2:42.11) in front of sophomore Maylen Parks in eighth (2:52.49).
Parks then finished runner-up in the 1600m with a time of 6:06.98. Fayette freshman Julia Young placed sixth (6:29.74), and Glasgow senior Jaclyn Johnson finished seventh (6:45.36).
Parks also won the 3200 meters by more than 23 seconds with a time of 13:17.42. Senior teammate Magdale Kramm-Neighbors finished third (15.55.80).
In relay races, Fayette claimed gold and silver medals. The 4x200m team won with a time of 1:49.56. Glasgow finished sixth (1:56.74) and New Franklin seventh (1:57.42). The Fayette girls were runner-up in the 4x100m race with a time of 54.55 seconds. Glasgow placed fifth (55.64), New Franklin sixth (55.73), and Higbee eighth (59.98).
The Glasgow girls added to their point total with first-place finishes in the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:33.52 and the 4x800m relay with a time of 10:39.86. New Franklin also placed fourth in the 4x800m with a time of 11:09.75.
