Central Methodist Director of Athletics Jeff Sherman announced on Monday that Glasgow native Dustyn Yung will serve as the 10th women’s basketball head coach in program history.

A Glasgow native, Yung makes the leap to college head coaching after leading Class 6 Battle High School in Columbia for the past three seasons. He succeeds legendary coach Mike Davis, who was fired last month after 22 seasons at Central.

Yung is no stranger to CMU, where he completed both his undergraduate and graduate degrees.

He finished his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Central in 2013 before earning a Master of Education in Athletic Administration in 2015.

“I am beyond excited to return to Central Methodist University as the new Head Women’s Basketball Coach,” stated Yung.

“This opportunity has come full circle, as I graduated from CMU, began my coaching career at CMU, and now am returning to lead the women’s basketball program, which is a dream come true.”

As a graduate student, Yung served on the women’s basketball coaching staff for two years at Central Methodist. While on staff, he recruited and developed the Heart Newcomer of the Year and NAIA All-American Morgan Vetter, who later became a district-winning head coach at New Franklin. Additionally, he was a student assistant from 2011-13 and was a part of the 2013 team that qualified for the first-ever NAIA Division I National Tournament in program history. 

“I am very excited for Dustyn to come home to Central,” stated Sherman. “From the beginning of our search, it was clear that he possessed all the traits we wanted in the new leader of our women’s basketball program with his detailed vision for success. Dustyn is a man of high character with a relentless work ethic, knowledge, and passion for basketball and CMU. I believe he will lead our program, putting student-athletes first and committing to helping young women reach their full potential on and off the court.”

In three seasons as head coach of the Battle High School program, Yung coached an All-State player, six All-District, and five All-Conference selections. 

Yung posted three consecutive winning seasons while on the sidelines for Battle High School from 2021-2024. He took the program to unprecedented heights, as the Spartans were ranked as high as No. 8 in the MSHSAA Class 6 polls.

Prior to his time at Battle, Yung served as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Moberly Area Community College for two years. While with the Greyhounds, Yung assisted the program with game day planning, scouting, recruiting, and program development.

During his time with the Greyhounds, MACC won both the Region 16 and District Championship in 2020 and qualified for back-to-back NJCAA Division I National Tournaments (2020 and 2021).

Altogether, he coached and developed two All-Americans, six All-Region selections, and eight All-Conference players.

Previously, Yung spent three full seasons as the Director of Basketball Operations at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. He directly oversaw the program’s operating budget, including travel, equipment, guarantees, recruiting, meals, fundraising, and supplies.

Yung officially begins his coaching duties on June 3.
