The Harrisburg girls and boys track & field teams swept their own Lowell Eaton Relays on Friday among 20 teams. The girls posted a top team finish with 128.5 points on more than two dozen top-8 scoring performances. Harrisburg also paced the boys’ field with 91 points.
On the girls’ side, Glasgow edged out Fayette by two points to claim fourth place with a team score of 68. Fayette placed fifth with 66 points. New Franklin scored 14 points to claim 13th place.
The New Franklin boys finished fifth overall with 56 points. Glasgow tallied 38 points for eighth place. Fayette came in 15th overall with 20 points.
Girls
The Harrisburg girls dominated on the track and in the field events to finish 27.5 points in front of their nearest competitor, Westran. The Lady Bulldogs placed in 27 events, winning four and placing second in three. Junior distance specialist Marie Bergfield won the 1600m with a personal best time of 5:52.41 and placed second in the half-mile with another personal best time, 2:33.79.
Senior Poppy Spry won the pole vault with a top mark of 1.9 meters, narrowly missing the meet record. Junior Darian Gilpin finished eighth with a vault of 2.3 meters. Freshman Jacqueline Stidham placed eighth with a personal-best height of 2.3 meters.
Giplin also finished eighth in the 300m hurdles (56.93). Stidham added a fourth-place time in the 800m (2:38.39).
Harrisburg claimed second place in the two-mile race. Junior Josey Whitaker was runner-up with a time of 13:23.40. Freshman Lillian Hirner placed fifth with a personal best time of 15:4.91.
Junior Kori Crane had an outstanding day with three finishes in the points, all personal best performances. She was runner-up in the long jump at 4.6 meters. She posted a second-place time in the 100m hurdles at 17.31 seconds and finished third in the 300m hurdles with a time of 52 seconds.
Junior Addison Nichols scored in four events. She won the long jump with a score of 4.77 meters and placed seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 9.63 meters. On the track, she came in sixth in the 100m (13.85) and seventh in the 200m (29.35).
Senior Audrey Arnold scored a personal best height of 1.45m to place fourth in the high jump.
Senior thrower Kenlee Oglesby placed in two events. She posted a fifth place finish in the shotput (9.45m) and placed sixth with a personal best throw of 29.44 meters with the discus.
Freshman Carly Price placed third overall in the shot put with a toss of 9.74 meters and added an eighth-place time in the 100m (13.90).
All four of the Harrisburg girls’ relay teams finished in the points. Junior Brette Ackman, Hirner, freshman Lily Overfelt, and freshman Erandi Reinaga-Mendez led the relays with a fourth-place finish in the 4x800m race (12:26.99). Freshman Carly Price, Ackman, senior Gwyneth Benton, and Arnold placed fifth in the 4x100m race (55.74). The same lineup added a seventh-place time of 2:00.46 in the 4x200m. Crane, Stidham, Benton, and Bergfield claimed sixth place in the 4x400m with a time of 4:48.19.
The Glasgow girls finished with 14 point finishes, led by high scores in the distance races. Sophomore Maylen Parks posted three personal-best times, but just missed the scoring cutoff in the 800m, placing ninth (2:50.22). She won the 3200m (12:58.83 and placed third in the 1600m (6:16.41).
The Lady Yellowjackets claimed two point-finishes in the 400m dash, both with personal best times. Freshman Kamryn Kottman finished third (1:05.16) and senior Hallie Fuemmeler placed fourth (1:06.25).
Freshman Brenna Adams turned in a personal best time (18.89) in the 100m hurdles with an eighth place finish.
Senior Jaclyn Johnson placed eighth in the mile run with a time of 6:51.66.
The Lady Jackets scored 19 points in the field events. Senior Hailey Monnig led the way with two personal-best performances. She finished runner-up in the javelin (30.93m) and fifth in the long jump (4.45m).
Sophomore Riley Oldendorf placed second in the high jump (1.50m).
Junior Aly Prentzler added a season-best mark of 32.85m in the discus to place fourth overall.
Two of Glasgow’s seven relay teams finished in the points. Freshman Brenna Adams, Fuemmeler, Parks, and Kottman finished second with a season-best time of 11:10.49 in the 4x800m race. Kottman, Fuemmeler, Kenley Strodtman, and Olendorf rounded out the day with a season-best time of 4:40.48 to place fifth in the 4x400m race.
The Fayette girls claimed five first-place wins and two runner-up finishes. Leading the way was senior Browyn Eubanks with wins in the hurdles. She won the 100m hurdles in a time of 15.48 seconds, breaking her own meet record from the prior year, and the 300m hurdles with a time of 50.24 seconds. She also helped the girls’ 4x100 and 4x200-meter relay teams claim top spots.
Senior Chloe Bier, Eubanks, sophomore Adriaunna Barney, and senior Payton Kindle claimed first place in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 52.82 seconds. The 4x200-meter team, comprised of sophomore Eastin Hill, Bier, Kindle, and Eubanks, scored a season-best time of 1:50.46 to win the gold medal.
Hill also picked up a top finish in the 800m with a time of 2:32.05.
Kindle added two second-place finishes. She finished runner up in the 100m with a time of 13.36 seconds, and posted a season-best time of 51.94 seconds in the 300m hurdles.
Four girls from New Franklin finished in the points. Senior CannaRassa Jennings led with a runner-up finish in the shot put with a mark of 4.25 meters.
“CannaRassa Jennings has quietly been putting together a great season in the shot put, and this time was no different,” said New Franklin coach Adam Quest. “For the second meet in a row, we had cold and blustery conditions to deal with. I really challenged the athletes to mentally prepare themselves for the cold, and this time, they came out ready to compete.”
Sophomore Belle Chitwood and junior Rowan Lemberger tied for seventh in the high jump, each clearing a height of 1.4 meters. The mark was a season-best for Lemberger.
On the track, freshman Kaydi Webster posted a personal-best time of 29.59 seconds in the 200 meters for eighth place, her first individual medal of the year.
Boys
The Harrisburg boys completed the sweep of their home meet, anchored by dominance in the field events. Senior Bender Wardrip threw a personal-best distance of 16.41 meters in the shot put, claiming first place and ranking 15th in the state for this season. He added a fifth-place mark of 37.6m in the discus.
Senior Jonathan Darwent further added strong performances in the throwing events, with a runner-up personal-best mark in the discus (45.13m) and a third-place toss (14.96m) in the shot put.
Junior Nathanial Bassett added a seventh-place finish in the discus with a score of 35.45 meters.
Senior Rylee Robinson had a strong day in the field, placing second overall in the javelin (44.32m) and fourth overall in the pole vault (3.5m).
Rounding out the scoring in the field events were sophomore Nash Sublett with a third place leap in the triple jump (11.83m) and senior Caleb Nichols with an eighth-place distance in the long jump (5.60m).
The Bulldogs scored four points finishes in the hurdle events. Sublett posted a personal best time (16.25) in the 110m hurdles for second place. Sophomore Ramsey Miller finished sixth (18.58). Miller ran a season best race in the 300m hurdles with a fifth place finish (46.07). Sublett was on his heels in sixth place with a personal best time of 46.10 seconds.
Nichols added a personal best finish of 54.80 seconds in the 400m for fifth place.
And the 800m, Aiden Washburn ran a personal best time of 2:16.95.
Four of Harrisburg’s five relay teams finished in the points. Leading the way was the 4x400m team of Nichols, junior Cooper Peters, sophomore William Cole, and Declan Timbrook with a fourth place finish (3:35.21).
Three other relay teams posted sixth-place finishes. The 4x100m team of seniors Aden Stone, Robinson, Nichols, and sophomore Hunter Winscott finished with a time of 47.06 seconds. As the 4x200m team, sophomore Jakob Snyder, freshman Carter Williamson, sophomore Adrian Jacobs, and junior Gunnar Lorenz finished in 1:40.61.
Freshmen Connor Gray and Brody Combs, junior Cooper Peters, and Washburn posted a season-best time of 9:47.17 in the 4x800m relay.
New Franklin sophomore Quincy Dorson continues to make a name for himself in the distance races. He won both the mile and two-mile races, finishing the 1600m with a time of 4:47.61 and the 3200m in 10:11.89, a new school record. He also anchored the 4x800m relay team, which finished second overall with a time of 9:00.48.
Rounding out the relay team was freshman Ryder Dorson, sophomore Mason McGruder, and sophomore Noah Hackman.
The 4x400m relay team also finished in the points. Senior Landon Shaw, Noah Hackman, Quincy Dorson, and Ryder Dorson posted a season-best time of 3:54.27.
Ryder Dorson had his best meet of the season, finishing fourth in the 1600m (4:56.76) and sixth in the 800m with a time of 2:15.22, both personal-best performances.
Senior Landon Shaw added points in the jumping events. He placed second overall in the triple (12.51m) and fourth in the long jump (5.81m).
Hackman and Shaw both scored in the 400 meters. Hackman finished seventh (55.21) in front of Shaw, who posted a personal-best time of 55.76 seconds for eighth place.
Finishing just outside of the points was freshman Haden Davis. He cleared 3.2 meters for 10th place, which shattered a nearly four-decade old school record.
“Haden works tirelessly at this event, and it was great to see him get the record. I suspect he may break it again this season,” said Coach Quest.
The Glasgow boys scored most of their points in the field and in the distance races. Junior Kyler Kottman claimed the Jackets’ only first-place medal, clearing a personal-best height of 1.8 meters in the high jump.
In the throwing events, senior Jackson Meyer posted two scoring finishes. He tossed a personal-best 12.71 meters to claim fifth in the shot put, and added a seventh-place finish in the javelin with a distance of 40.08 meters.
On the track, junior Josh Sayler paced the Yellowjackets with a fourth place finish in the 800 meters, posting a personal best time of 2:14.47. He also finished sixth overall in the 1600m with a time of 4:58.28, and posted a personal best time of 10:41.68 for seventh place in the 3200m.
Glasgow’s final individual points came in the 300-meter hurdles. Freshman Hayden Minor finished eighth overall with a mark of 47.41 seconds.
Two relay teams rounded out the scoring for the Jackets. Sayler, Kottman, August Schmidt, and Wesley Norris placed fifth overall as the 4x800-meter relay team with a time of 9:46.85.
Kottman, Schmidt, Norris, and Minor posted a season-best time of 4:04.05 in the 4x400m for an eighth-place finish.
The Fayette boys were led by strong performances by Carter Vroman in the throwing events. The senior scored 18 of the team’s 20 points, winning the javelin with a mark of 50.7 meters and placing second in the shot put with a personal best toss of 15.34m.
Only one other Falcon boy finished in the points. Senior Zane Spaeder placed seventh overall in the long jump with a mark of 5.71 meters.
Fayette defeated all other competitors in the mixed throwers relay to finish off the meet. Freshman Kase Kelsey, Audriana Barney, freshman Jayden Barnhill, and junior Ky Cunningham finished the 4x100-meter relay with a top time of 55.04 for a gastro-prize of food from the concession stand.
Fayette, New Franklin, and Harrisburg were scheduled to compete at Salisbury on Tuesday after the Advertiser went to press. Fayette then travels to Westran on Monday. Glasgow was slated to compete at the Centralia Invitational on Tuesday after the Advertiser went to press and the Smith-Cotton Invitational on Friday.
New Franklin will compete at teh South Callaway Invitational on Friday. Harrisburg will compete at the Licklider Relays in Jefferson City on Saturday.
