1934 – 2024

Fayette resident, Helen Frevert, 90, passed away at University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, with family by her side, on October 9, 2024.  She will be missed by all who knew her to be generous and kind, but never afraid to speak her mind.

Helen O. (Werner) Frevert was born on January 20, 1934 in Fayette to the late Roy Sr. and Rachel (Pemberton) Werner.  She attended and graduated from Fayette High School with the class of 1952.  She married the love of her life, Donald F. Frevert, on August 23, 1953 at the First Christian Church in Fayette.  They made their home first in an apartment, then with their three children (Doddie, Doug and Donnie) in the little house on Mulberry Street by the college, before moving to the big white house on West Davis.  They were married for 52 years. Don preceded her in death on September 22, 2005.

Helen started her working career as a dental assistant for local dentist, Dr. Borg.  She took some time off with her children, then worked at Daly Elementary as a special education aide for Fayette Schools for years.  Helen particularly enjoyed guiding and taking care of children with special needs.  She was a volunteer and member of Fayette First Christian Church.

In 1988, Helen and Don purchased property in rural Howard County and named it Turkey Hollow.  She was very proud of this land and enjoyed caring for it and spending time there.  She enjoyed attending BBQ’s and fish fries at the farm, in addition to making oatmeal cookies for deer camp.

Helen loved listening and watching the St. Louis Cardinals broadcasts, although she was not a fan of Mike Shannon.  She and Don traveled to most of the grandchildren’s events, home and away.  After Don’s passing, she became an avid Facebook follower in order to keep up with photos and activities of family and friends.  She even learned how to listen to online broadcasts of ball games.  There was a scanner playing in the home at all times, to keep her up to date on all the happenings around Fayette.  She could draw beautifully before arthritis took over her hands.

Helen is survived by three children: Dons’elen “Doddie” Frevert of Fayette; Doug (Maribeth) Frevert of Columbia; and Donnie (Tracy) Frevert of Columbia.  She leaves behind her sister, Bonnie (Kenny) Blakely of Fayette.  She and Bonnie were best friends their whole lives and lived across the street from each other. Additionally, she is survived by one brother-in-law Leon Frevert, of Fayette, and one sister-in-law Annie Frevert of Fulton.

Helen is also survived by four grandchildren, who were her pride and joy: Kristin (Mac) Henke of Princeton; Samantha (Trent) Decker of Oologah, OK; Matt (Grace) Frevert of Columbia; and Stephanie (Ryan) Bernard of Ashland.  They adoringly called her “Hummie.”  She loved keeping track of her eight great-grandchildren, Judd, Emma and Sadie Henke of Princeton, Colt and Jax Decker of Oologah, OK,

Charlotte Frevert and Connor Thompson of Columbia, and Reagan Bernard of Ashland.  She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, whom she adored.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents and husband Don in 2005.  She was also preceded in death by a brother, Roy Werner Jr. and his wife Katherine, and by an infant brother, Bobby Lynne Werner.  Helen’s family would like to thank the staff at The Lodge and at Glasgow Gardens for the concern and care she received over the past few years.

Funeral services honoring Helen’s life will be 11 AM Monday October 14, 2024 at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette.  Visitation will be held an hour before the service at the funeral home starting at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Fayette.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Fayette First Christian Church and may be directed to Fayette First Christian Church, 307 N. Church St. Fayette MO 65248.
