The Higbee girls claimed the Carroll-Livingston Activities Association Tournament title on Saturday, knocking off shorthanded Brunswick 86-40 in the championship game.
The Lady Tigers also swept the CLAA regular season, finishing 9-0 in the conference with a current overall record of 17-6.
Freshman Ava Welch was named Tournament MVP. She is believed to be the first player ever to be named tournament MVP as a freshman. Senior Lauren Spilman was named to the All-Tournament team.
Higbee outscored its opponents 264 to 174 over three games, averaging 88 points per contest. Those numbers are thought to be the most points scored in tournament history for boys’ or girls’ teams.
The Higbee girls are currently receiving votes in state polls. They finish out the regular season this week. They were scheduled to face Prairie Home on Tuesday after the Advertiser went to press and travel to Harrisburg, ranked seventh in Class 2, on Wednesday. They close the regular season at home on Friday against South Shelby.
The Higbee boys fell to conference rival Brunswick 70-33 for the CLAA Tournament title on Saturday.
Senior Danny Janssen was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Tigers were to play at Prairie Home on Tuesday after the Advertiser had gone to press. They wrap up the regular season on Friday against South Shelby.
