A third Republican has declared candidacy for the office of Howard County Treasurer. Michele Johnmeyer filed for election last week.
She will face at least one other GOP candidate in the August primary.
A Howard County resident since 1987, Johnmeyer is a 1997 Fayette High School graduate and raises her family here alongside her husband, Jerimiah Johnmeyer, the current Howard County Presiding Commissioner.
“My growing family continues to work and raise their families in Howard County,” she said.
Johnmeyer has worked as a professional manager at the Braun Home for the last 14 years and has held various positions in the health and medical fields. She cites years of experience with record keeping, attention to detail, and knowledge in reconciling accounts both professionally and personally as her qualifications for Howard County Treasurer.
“I believe my years of professional and personal experience have given me the tools necessary to continue to provide the excellent service to Howard County that the present Treasurer, Susan Keyton, has provided in her many years serving the county,” Johnmeyer said.
Current Treasurer Susan Keyton announced in January she would retire at the end of this term, which expires on Dec. 31. She has held the office since 2006.
Johnmeyer will face Stacie McCutcheon in the Republican primary in August. Former Fayette alderwoman Stephanie Ford was the first to declare her candidacy, but did not file. She confirmed on Monday that she is dropping out of the race due to health concerns. The filing deadline is 5 p.m. on March 31.
