The Fayette Lincoln Public School Committee is honoring its oldest living alumna, Ms. Louis Williams, who will celebrate her 101st birthday on May 30.
The Fayette Lincoln Public School Committee called Williams “a powerful testament to resilience, faith, love, and community” and wished her continued good health and joy with her large, loving family. She was honored for reaching 100 years of age by Mayor Greg Stidham and the City of Fayette during the 2025 Juneteenth Celebration.
Known for her deep faith, Williams is remembered as a powerful prayer warrior. She often tells others, “If you’re worried about something, pray about it. If you’re praying about it, stop worrying about it; there’s no need to do both.”
Born in Hillsdale, Mo., Williams is one of seven children born to Herman and Frankie (Stemmons) Williams. All of her siblings, Mable Jane, George Howard, Ira Steve, William Herman, Romie Lee, and infant Forest, have preceded her in death.
A devoted mother, Williams raised six children: Shirley, Ethelene (deceased), Edward “Big E,” Jessie-Bo (deceased), Virginia “Susie,” and James “Banks.” Her family legacy continues through 25 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 24 great-great-grandchildren. She has also endured the loss of four grandchildren: Johnny, Edward, Tareva, and Aiyanna.
A drive-by celebration in her honor will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 23. Community members are invited to drive by 301 Knaus St. (Annette and Damon Gaines Street) and honk their car horns to wish her a happy birthday. Those wishing to send a card may mail it to Ms. Louis Williams, 304 Ferguson St., Fayette, MO 65248.
