A two-way race has opened in the Republican primary for Howard County Treasurer. Stacie McCutcheon has officially declared her candidacy for the seat that will be vacated by five-term Democrat Susan Keyton, who announced she will retire when her current term expires at the end of 2026.
McCutcheon will face fellow Republican Stephanie Ford, a former Fayette Alderwoman, who last month announced her intent to run for Treasurer.
McCutcheon has a background in business banking and financial management from a career at Regions Bank before becoming Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager at First Midwest Bank in Columbia.
“I worked closely with executives to manage, grow, and retain a diverse portfolio of business and personal accounts,” McCutcheon explained.
Additionally, she holds a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Management degree from the University of Missouri’s College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources.
“My professional background includes careful record keeping and fiscal operations,” McCutcheon said. “I have a genuine heart for service and deep compassion for others. The Treasurer’s office demands careful stewardship of public funds, and I am committed to transparency, efficiency, and outstanding service to support every taxpayer and help meet the county’s essential needs.”
Stacie and her husband, Cory, are raising their three boys in Howard County, where they have lived for more than a decade. Cory’s family has lived here for three generations.
The filing period for county offices opens on Tuesday, Feb. 24, and closes at the end of business on Tuesday, March 21. Interested candidates may file at the Clerk’s office on the south wing of the courthouse during regular business hours. Primary elections are scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 4. The general election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
