The Howard County Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Howard County American Legion Post 273 will once again host the annual Memorial Day service. The program begins at 2 p.m. next Sunday, May 24, on the west side of the courthouse square in Fayette.

Barb Comegys, regent of the Howard County Chapter NSDAR, will serve as master of ceremonies.

The program will begin with an invocation by Rev. Sharae Kelley of Fayette First Christian Church. Boy Scout Troop 62 will raise the flag and lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Lydia Eaton will sing “The Star Spangled Banner.” Fayette Mayor Greg Stidham will deliver the welcome.

The keynote speaker will be Richard Smith, a U.S. Air Force veteran who served from 1974 to 1979. A Montgomery City native, Smith is a longtime member and current chaplain of American Legion Post 273 in Fayette. He and his wife, Becky, live in the area.

Kirk Klinger will recognize veterans in attendance. Members of the Howard County DAR will place the memorial wreath. Taps will be played by Kevin and Haydan Fearn. Rev. Sharae Kelley will give the benediction.

The public is invited to attend the service to honor area veterans. A public address system will be provided by Faith Family Church.
