The No. 14 Central Methodist women’s soccer team secured another thrilling win on Saturday with a 3-2 victory against Park University on Senior Night at Davis Field.
Six seniors —Luisa Schaupp, Rieke Protze, Moka Ishii, Maja Henriksen, Suzu Narusawa, and Leslie Serrato —were honored prior to the match.
Central improves to 13-1-2 and 11-0-1 in conference action. Park drops to 7-4-3 and 5-3-3 in the Heart.
Narusawa netted her first goal of the year in the 12th minute, with the assist coming from Schaupp. But the Pirates found the equalizer in the 37th minute to tie the match at 1-1 entering the halftime break.
Mariana Barreto broke the deadlock in the 57th minute with her 23rd goal of the year, which was assisted by Lauren Berger. Park responded almost instantly with a goal just 90 seconds later.
With the possibility of ending the match in a 2-2 tie as the clock ticked down, the Eagles had one final opportunity to score a game-winner in the final moments. Central earned a corner kick with less than a minute remaining. Captain Jenna Brouwer sent the ball into the box, which found the head of Nerea Munoz, who sent the ball past the keeper into the back of the net for the winning goal. The score marks Munoz’s fourth goal of the year and her second game-winner of 2025.
A physical battle saw Central fire off 18 total shots, with five shots coming on goal. CMU’s defense held the Pirates to just five shots and three shots on goal.
Barreto finished the night with eight shots and five shots on goal, while Munoz tallied five shots and four on goal.
Amber Bennett earned her 13th win of the year in between the posts after playing a full 90 minutes.
The Eagles will close out the regular season with a home match against Baker University at 5 p.m. tonight (Wednesday) at Davis Field. A win would lock up the Heart of America regular-season championship for Central.
