New fairgrounds building highlights 2026 Howard County Fair

Posted

A highlight of this year’s Howard County Fair was the opening of the brand new building at the fairgrounds. A work in progress for nearly a decade, the new 120-foot-long, 80-foot-wide, air-conditioned metal building was a welcomed addition to the fair this year, hosting the Queen and Teen contest, indoor exhibits, and other events.

The new building was ready for this year’s fair thanks to an array of donors, including Jay and Kelly Jacobs and Commercial Trust Company, who matched all donations since Jan. 20, 2026, up to $120,000. The Howard County maxed out that matching pledge with a contribution of $20,057 on May 28.

Additionally, the new building was not possible without the sweat equity invested by numerous volunteers who toiled on the building in the weeks and days leading up to the fair. Particularly recognized was the work by Warren and Larry Schlotzhauer to help prepare the building for use in time for the fair.

The building is available for rent for events such as wedding receptions and family reunions.
