New Franklin senior sharpshooter Lydia Burnett made it official last Tuesday, March 24, signing her national letter of intent to play basketball at Central Christian College of the Bible in Moberly next season.
Burnett helped lead her team to a Class 1 District 9 title and a 22-7 overall record with a share of the Central Activities Conference championship.
“We're really proud of Lydia and want to congratulate her on taking this next step in her basketball and academic career,” said New Franklin coach Parker Gross.
A three-year starter at New Franklin, Burnett finished her senior season averaging seven points a game while shooting 33 percent from the 3-point line. She added 3.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists while making nearly half of her two-point shots (47.8%), despite sitting out three weeks of her final high school season with illness.
“Lydia has been someone we relied on a ton to knock down shots and handle the basketball,” Gross said. “She was a part of some really fun games for us during that time and made some big plays during her career.”
Burnett will join a Saints team that finished 8-17 overall this season in the first year under head coach Tressa Terry. CCCB also posted a 3-7 mark in the Midwest Christian College Conference. The Saints compete in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division II.
“We're really excited for her to be able to continue her basketball career and pursue her dreams at the next level and wish her the best as she graduates from our program,” Gross added.
