The Howard County Historical Museum and International Educational Resources for Rural Missouri (IERRM) will host an open house from Friday, October 18 to Sunday, October 20, at the new museum located at 208 South Main Street. The building previously housed Grey Willows antique store.
The three-day event officially opens the museum, and features art, music, an educational presentation, and a silent auction.
A trunk show hosted by local ceramic artist Geoff Graham will take place from 5 until 8 p.m. on Friday, all day Saturday, and starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday. At 6 p.m. each day, David Holman will make a brief presentation about the work his father, Lt. Col. Bill Holman, who contributed to the Apollo 11 Mission to the moon, and who was in NASA’s Mission Control during the historic moon landing. Holman will also deliver an introduction to the NASA documentary, Magnificent Desolation, prior to showings at 7 p.m. all three days.
From 2 until 4 p.m. on Saturday, attendees can enjoy music from the Jeff and Noah Collective in the back yard of the museum.
A silent auction, featuring items donated from local radio station KPIP, will kick off Friday evening through the event’s conclusion on Sunday evening. In addition, Cathy Thogmorton proprietor of the former Grey Willows, will contribute items from her antiques inventory toward the silent auction.
Questions about the event should be directed to (660) 728-5002.
