The Fayette Optimist Club announced a new scholarship in honor of longtime member Don Hilgedick.
The founder of Hilgedick Electric Service, Hilgedick was an “everyday Optimist.” He passed away on February 10, 2025, at the age of 95.
In honor of Don’s lifelong commitment to the vocational and technical trades, the club will sponsor a new $1,000 scholarship for a graduating Fayette High School student who plans to continue their education at a vocational or technical school.
This new scholarship is in addition to four other $500 scholarships the Optimist Club currently offers to FHS graduating seniors.
Interested FHS 2026 graduates can pick up a scholarship application from the FHS counselor.
