Contractors working with the Missouri Department (MoDOT) of Transportation plan to close Missouri Route 124 in multiple locations this week to replace culverts. The first closures are were on Monday, April 6 in Boone County, from Route NN to Route YY; and Tuesday, April 7 in Howard County, from Route A to County Road 405. This will include restricted access to and from Route 124 at County Road 105.

The roadway was set to close at 7 a.m. and reopen by 5 p.m. each day. Depending on construction progress and weather, additional closures may be scheduled later in the week. Changeable message boards are in place to alert drivers of the upcoming closures.

During the closures, local property owners will be able to access driveways, but through traffic will need to seek alternate routes.

All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.

During its November 2025 meeting, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded a $6,650,955.26 contract to Christensen Construction Co. for a multi-route project that includes resurfacing Route 124 from Fayette to Hallsville. The scheduled culvert replacements will help prepare the roadway for resurfacing.

MoDOT asks all motorists to work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones.

MoDOT is also in the planning phases for a new intersection of Highways 40 and 5 south of Boonville, and the Missouri Route 5 bridge over Sulphur Creek, also south of New Franklin. The new intersection is behind schedule, according to MoDOT’s plans. The bridge, constructed in 1926, is scheduled for replacement sometime this year.
