Responds to 'Concerned Parent'

To the Editor:

This letter is in response to “A Concerned Parent” and of the request for the Superintendent to resign.

Let me start by saying I was on the Fayette School Board for seven years and my wife has been a teacher for 25+ years, so my comments are based on being in the trenches and not on the sideline. I am not sure where this parent received their information but it’s not accurate. I could go line by line and dissect their comments, but I’ll keep it short.

Calling for the Superintendent to resign misses the target completely. The School Board is 100% in charge of the overall school, the Superintendent oversees the day-to-day decisions the Board places in front of him. The aim should be at the Board, but my guess is that won’t happen. If you get rid of the board members, you open seven spots for others to fill, which is plenty of room for everyone with all the answers. This past school board election there was one spot open and one person put in. That has been the norm for years.

As a board member, you are obligated to make tough decisions with information 99% of the people don’t know and it’s not for lack of transparency. If you don’t agree with the way the school district is headed, get involved. Come to the school board meetings, contact the board members, or volunteer for activities within the school district. In the seven years I served, I can count on one hand how many people contacted me.

Everyone has the right to their opinions, but in this case, attacking the Superintendent with false information does nothing but stir the pot and misses the mark. If anyone would like to discuss the comments that were mentioned in last week’s letter to the Editor; Four Day school week, budget, transparency, bullying, etc., I am more than willing because I was there for the decisions.

Thanks,

Matt Hudson
