Robert (Bob) William Taylor, 79, formerly of Fayette, Missouri, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, at his home in Helena, Alabama.
Bob was born on September 6, 1946, in Columbia, Missouri, to William Henry Taylor and Julia Ann Taylor. He graduated from Fayette High School in 1964 and Central Methodist College in 1972. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1972 as a helicopter flight mechanic.
Bob was married to Susan Taylor for 27 years, and together they raised their three children, living in Devils Lake, ND; Omaha, NE; and Harrisburg, MO. During the years following, they remained connected through the family they built, shared, and loved.
He is survived by his children, Jennifer Swint, Stacey Kirkpatrick, and Josh Taylor, and his six grandchildren, all of whom reside in the Birmingham, Alabama area. Bob deeply loved his family and was always proud to talk about his children and grandchildren.
A lifelong Missourian at heart, Bob loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting with his Brittany and Pointer Spaniels. He loved arrowhead hunting, fishing, fish fries, motorcycles, NASCAR, and cheering on his Kansas City Chiefs football and Missouri Tigers. He enjoyed attending his children’s sporting events to cheer them on, as well as the farm and quiet sunsets.
Bob had many stages in his professional career after serving his country. He began with Western Insurance Company for many years before joining the Callaway Nuclear Power Plant construction. He then worked in the medical department at Whiteman Air Force Base and as a building inspector for Boone County Planning in Columbia, Missouri.
In the final years of his life, Bob was surrounded by family and received loving care and support. He will be remembered for his strong personality, pride in his family, loyalty to friends, and the gratitude he expressed to those who cared for him.
A military committal service with honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevello, Alabama.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Lake Wilborn Clubhouse in Hoover, Alabama. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob's memory to the Air & Space Forces Aid Society, the official charity of the United States Air Force and United States Space Force. When donating, please select “In Memory of” and enter Robert William Taylor as the honoree.
