The Howard County Sheriff’s Department is seeking information after several gravestones in Walnut Ridge Cemetery were damaged by a vehicle last week. The vandalism was discovered on Wednesday, October 8, resulting in thousands of dollars' worth of damage.
Families of the damaged gravestones have been notified.
Sheriff Jeff Oswald said his department is pursuing leads and is contacting body shops for reports of damage consistent with ramming gravestones. He said a pickup truck most likely caused the vandalism.
Three groups of stones were damaged, and swerve and skid marks were left in the grass.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s department at (660) 248-2477.
