Fayette Superintendent Brent Doolin has received certification as a School Safety Specialist. He attended the School Safety Academy, organized by the Missouri School Boards’ Association’s Center for Education Safety, last month in Columbia. The training focused on comprehensive planning and development for school safety.
School safety personnel from various districts across the state attended the academy at no cost to their local districts. “It’s essential that students, teachers, and staff are in a safe learning environment,” said John McDonald, Chief Operating Officer of the Center for Education Safety. “Schools must have processes and protocols in place and have trained staff to respond accordingly to ensure our students can focus on learning.”
Topics at the School Safety Academy included support systems for managing behavior, legal considerations in school safety, trauma-informed schools and mental health resources, intervention and de-escalation techniques, emergency preparedness and plan development, behavioral risk and threat assessments, cybersecurity basics, and more.
The CES School Safety Academy offers essential training to certify school safety coordinators, with plans to expand to more advanced training and certification as the program grows in the coming years.
