Thompson announces for Treasurer as Independent

Glasgow native Sarah Thies Thompson announced she will run for Howard County Treasurer as an Independent during the November general election.

She will face the winner of the Republican primary between Stacie McCutcheon and Michele Johnmeyer, which takes place on Tuesday, August 4.

Thompson has registered with the Howard County Clerk’s office and has surpassed the threshold of 57 signatures required to be on the ballot.

“Raised on a family farm in Glasgow, I learned the value of hard work, responsibility, and careful financial management at an early age,” Thompson said. “As a lifelong resident of Howard County, I care deeply about our communities and the future of our county.”

Thompson holds an associate’s degree in business and office technology from Moberly Area Community College and works for Hubbell Power Systems in Centralia, with experience in financial management, organization, and accountability. She and her husband, Dave Thompson, are raising their two children, Nathan and Charley, in Fayette.

Thompson said she is running for Treasurer because Howard County deserves honest, transparent stewardship of taxpayer dollars. “If elected, I will focus on accountability, efficiency, strong financial reserves, and clear financial reporting,” she said. “As an Independent, my priority will always be integrity, transparency, and responsible financial management for Howard County taxpayers.”

Longtime Howard County Treasurer Susan Keyton announced in January she would retire at the end of this term, which expires on Dec. 31. She has held the office since 2006.
