Two officers have filed their candidacies for City Marshal, which begins a new term in April. Current Marshal Timothy “Bo” Wells and Fayette police officer Brandon Abbott have filed to lead the Fayette Police Department.
Wells was appointed City Marshal by the Mayor and city council in August to serve the remainder of the term after former Marshal David Ford retired. A new two-year term begins after voters elect a new Marshal in April.
Fayette voters in November rejected 169 to 134 a proposal by the Board of Aldermen to change from an elected City Marshal to a Chief of Police, which is appointed by the city council.
In other filing news, Bradley Patty will be a candidate for Fayette’s open Southwest Ward seat. Incumbent Grafton Cook, who won a two-way race in November to serve out the term abandoned by former Alderwoman Leanna Shiflett, confirmed to the Advertiser that he would not run for a full term in April. He previously served two terms on the council and also sits on the CID board.
Two of three incumbents on the Fayette Board of Education have filed for new terms. They are Shauna Young and Aaron Bentley. A third incumbent, Sarah Wies, told this newspaper she would not run for a third term, leaving one seat without a candidate as of press time on Monday evening.
The filing period expires at the end of business on Dec. 30. The Advertiser is tracking filings across the county. A complete list of candidates will appear in the Jan. 7, 2026, edition.
