Vandelicht to be honored at CMU band concert

Posted

Renowned band director Skip Vandelicht will be honored at a luncheon prior to the Central Methodist University Band Legacy Concert on Sunday, March 22.

The annual concert and luncheon celebrate the long tradition of musical excellence by the band and the Swinney Conservatory of Music.

The day will begin with church service at Linn Memorial United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m., followed by the Band Legacy Luncheon at noon on the fourth floor of the CMU Student and Community Center, and the concert at 3 p.m. The CMU concert band will perform both during the church service and the concert.

Vandelicht is a class of 1977 alumnus and former director of bands at CMU and Fayette. His career of shaping new music educators will be celebrated at the luncheon. Chuck Moore ’91, the university’s current director of bands, will also be on hand, reflecting on the 99th Band Tour and his first year as the band director for his alma mater.

During the Seward Award Concert, an exceptional member of the band will receive the 2026 Seward Band Award for Excellence, as the band performs in Linn Memorial. Alumni in attendance are invited to join the band in playing Barnum and Bailey’s Favorite. Those interested should email Stasia Sherman, director of alumni engagement, at ssherman@centralmethodist.edu before the event.

The day’s festivities will wrap up with a reception with cookies and punch immediately following the concert.

For more information on registering and lodging for the event, visit www.centralalumnievents.com. Tickets are $20, and RSVP is required for the luncheon.
