Fayette is seeking a new City Clerk.
Current City Clerk, Judy Thompson, announced she will leave the position at the end of August. She said she hopes the long lead time will give the city a chance to hire someone whom she can train before she departs.
Thompson started as the Assistant City Clerk two years ago and became the interim clerk for a period before the city’s Board of Aldermen elevated her to the full position.
A description for the position states: “The chief duty of the city clerk is to conscientiously and accurately record the public business of the city, keeping adequate records for future reference and for the information of the citizens of the community.”
