Captain Dusty L. Hoffman, director of the Public Information and Education Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, will retire June 1, after 30 years and 10 months of dedicated service.

A native of Glasgow, Hoffman was appointed to the Patrol August 1, 1993, as a member of the 66th Recruit Class. After graduating from the Academy, he was assigned to Troop F, Zone 6, Moniteau and Morgan counties. He transferred to Zone 3, Boone County, on May 1, 1995. While assigned to Boone County, Hoffman was certified as a drug recognition expert through the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

On December 1, 2001, Hoffman was promoted to corporal and designated assistant zone supervisor of Troop F, Zone 7, Cooper and Howard counties. On May 1, 2003, he transferred to the Gaming Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City. As a corporal, Hoffman participated in internships in the Human Resources Division assigned to the Trooper Selection Process, the Division of Drug and Crime Control working in computer forensics, and in the Assistant Superintendent’s Office writing legislative bill reviews and fiscal notes for the Department of Public Safety. Hoffman was promoted to sergeant on October 15, 2006, while serving in the Gaming Division at the Isle of Capri, Boonville.

He transferred to the Governor’s Security Division, General Headquarters, Jefferson City, on September 19, 2010, serving under Governor Jeremiah “Jay” Nixon. Hoffman protected Governor Nixon across Missouri and through major disasters such as the Joplin tornado. He also provided security for him around the world, visiting China in 2011.

On January 1, 2014, Hoffman was promoted to lieutenant and assigned to the Research and Development Division as staff inspector and later as the assistant director over the Statistical Analysis Center and Support Services Section.

He was promoted to captain on April 1, 2017, and designated director of the Governor’s Security Division under Governor Eric R. Greitens. In this capacity, Hoffman was a member of the National Governor’s Security Association and protected Governor Greitens worldwide, to include Israel, Doha, United Arab Emirates, China, and South Korea. Upon the swearing in of Governor Michael L. Parson, Hoffman served through the COVID-19 pandemic and conducted advance security details in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and Greece, and protective assignments with the governor in Australia, Germany, France, Switzerland, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Ireland, and Japan.

Hoffman transferred to the Public Information and Education Division on February 8, 2024, and was designated director of the division where he served until his retirement.

Captain Hoffman was born in Glasgow later graduated high school there in May 1989. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1989, where he served as a law enforcement specialist assigned to Texas, Alaska, and Panama. Hoffman was honorably discharged in 1992. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from Columbia College in 2004. Hoffman completed the IACP’s Leadership In Police Organizations Training in 2013. Captain Hoffman and his wife, Sunny, have four children, Brenden, Alex, Reagan, and Kemper.
