Salisbury, Mo. resident Joenie Wells, age 84, passed away on July 3, 2024, at Glasgow Gardens nursing home in Glasgow, Mo.

Bessie Joen Wells, affectionately known by her family and friends as “Joenie,” was born on April 8, 1940, in Saline County, Mo. She was a daughter to the late James A. and Ruth (Johnson) Wilson. She attended and graduated from Slater High School with the class of 1957. On March 27, 1964, Joenie married the love of her life, William David Wells. This past March, the couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Joenie was a homemaker but also helped her husband, David, with their business ventures. Joenie, along with her husband, owned and operated Dave’s United Super grocery store in Fayette from 1979-1987. She also helped manage Homestead Restaurant from 1984-1989. Joenie stayed busy in her spare time, tending to her flower gardens, camping, and trail riding. She also enjoyed traveling, antiquing, and restoring old homes.

Survivors include her husband, David Wells of Salisbury, Mo.; Daughter, Michelle (Mark) Stallo of Salisbury, Mo.; two grandchildren, Brandon (Mandy) Stallo of New Franklin, Mo. and Bethany (Erick) Billups of Salisbury, Mo.; four great-grandchildren, Finley and Lennon Stallo, and Aubrey and Beckett Billups; and a brother, Clifford (Rona) Wilson of Mexico, Mo. In addition to her parents, Joenie was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Ross.

A funeral service honoring the life of Mrs. Wells will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Friemonth-Freese Funeral Home in Fayette, Mo., with Rev. Mike Jackman officiating. Visitation will be held two hours before the service, starting at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at St. Joseph Cemetery in Salisbury, Mo.
