To the Editor:

Memorial Day in a small town is more genuine. I am not a Fayette native, but wish I were. As Regent of the Howard County DAR chapter, I was in charge of coordinating our annual Memorial Day ceremony.

One of our key people, Jamie Page, was unable to participate this year, as he had a family emergency. Jamie is an incredibly large part of our event. He provides music, the sound system, and is an integral part of the event.

This left me scrambling at the last minute, needless to say. Josh Kirby received many frantic messages from me. This guy came through for the event and the community. His daughter, Nora, performed a tap dance to a patriotic tune, he found a singer for the National Anthem, and was our sound guy.

The Peace Keepers awarded their Quilt of Valor, the DAR ladies placed the memorial wreath, and Brother James Briggs of the First Baptist Church of Fayette spoke. POW/MIA were remembered.

Biggest thanks to Josh Kirby, and all of the community that came together to remember and honor those that have fallen to preserve our freedom!!
