News of Mac’s return sparks widespread excitement

Word of the return of the beloved McMillan’s Cafe, known affectionately as Mac’s, has lifted the spirits of people not only in Fayette, but of Central Methodist alumni all over the country.

Twenty-one years after Fayette’s oldest watering hole closed down, the beloved tavern is preparing to re-open sometime this fall, next door to its original location on South Main Street. No date has been set, but proprietors Brian McMillan and Peggy O’Connell hope to open the doors sometime in November.

“It will be as close to the old Mac’s, like before,” said Brian McMillan.

In the meantime, thirsty Fayette and Central Methodist alums can join the Mac’s Club, an informal gathering during the Homecoming celebrations this weekend. Membership dues are $5. After membership is secured, drinks and food will be available. All proceeds from the Mac’s Club go toward local scholarships for dual-credit students.

Mac’s Club opens at 3 p.m. on Friday after the high school parade, and 9 a.m. on Saturday.
