Bee’s Knees Taproom at the Nest, on South Main Street a half block off the square, shuttered it doors on Friday, May 10.
The brewpub opened in February of last year to brisk business. It was the first expansion of Bee’s Knees Brewing Company in Versailles, Mo.
Owners Chris and Pam Byars originally listed the business for sale on April 11, then decided to close down on May 10. Only the Fayette location is closed.
Mr. Byars said there were a couple of factors that came into play that led to the difficult decision to list the property for sale.
“In the past few months we have had some growth opportunities at our parent location in Versailles present themselves and in order for this to happen we have to carve out time to make the changes,” he said. “We didn’t feel we could adequately support the Fayette location at the same time, so some hard choices had to be made. We have also had some changes in our personal lives that made us take stock and re-evaluate the importance of family, and we will be focusing on spending more time with family.
“We really love the Fayette community and they have provided tremendous support,” he said.
