Chinese spy balloon spotted over mid-Missouri

Posted

A pale white dot against a cloudless winter sky was apparently a Chinese spy balloon. It was spotted moving over central Missouri in the early afternoon of Friday, February 3.

The Chinese high-altitude surveillance balloon has been the subject of intense national scrutiny after it flew into U.S. airspace near Alaska on January 28. It was shot down off the coast of South Carolina by an F-22 Raptor on Saturday, but not before it had drifted over strategic nuclear missile silos and other U.S. military installations, including Whiteman Air Force Base east of Warrensburg.
