The United States Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced that 1,333 collegiate and high school volleyball teams have earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award this season. This marks an all-time record number of programs honored for their academic achievements, including the Central Methodist women’s volleyball program.
The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.
This marks the seventh time in the last eight seasons that Central has earned the distinction, as they were recognized four straight years from 2016-2019 and now, three consecutive years from 2021-2023. As a team, the Eagles finished the year with a final team GPA of 3.54.
On the court, Central finished 2022-23 with an overall record of 21-9 and its fifth-straight trip to the NAIA National Tournament.
