A new laundromat is now open in Fayette. Gene Gerlt and Li Lee officially opened the Fayette Laundromat on Friday, August 18, on the ground floor of the Chenoweth Building on the southwest corner of Main and Morrison streets downtown.
Fayette has been without a laundromat since 2021, when the old business, located on the corner of Church and Morrison streets, closed down. Shortly after, the building was demolished to make way for a new three-story, nearly block-long structure that will house Central Methodist students on the top two floors and retail space on the bottom. Without a laundromat locally, many families and students were forced to travel to surrounding towns such as Boonville to wash their clothes. Although the former laundromat was in such poor shape for several years, many traveled before then.
The new laundromat features nine brand-new washers and dryers, each costing $2 per cycle. Six of the washers are top load, and three are bottom load. There is a change machine on site, and vending machines with detergent and snacks will be available soon.
Lee and Gerlt said that since the laundromat’s soft opening on August 18, business has been good, and they expect much more now that students have moved back to town for the fall semester at CMU.
The Fayette Laundromat is open from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. every day, including holidays.
