Howard County Collector Jinger Felten has mailed the 2023 Howard County Real Estate and Personal Property tax statements along with any delinquent tax due. Anyone who has bought, sold, or owns real estate or personal property that was or was not included on the tax statement should notify the collector’s office at (660) 248-2195 or the assessor’s office at (660) 248-3400 at the earliest convenience.
Felten reminds property owners that failure to receive a tax statement does not relieve the taxpayer of the obligation to pay. Any delinquent tax must be paid before the current tax year. Taxes must be postmarked by December 31, 2023, or they will be returned for penalty and interest. Tax statements must be returned with the correct amount due for proper identification when paying in the office or by mail.
The collector will again offer the Preauthorized Debit for prepay payments for 2024 based on the amount of real estate and/or personal property you paid in 2023. Those interested should visit the collector’s office to register for 2024.
Online Payments can be made using this website: http://howardcounty.centralbank.net.
The collector has been charged with collecting $11,908,956.88 for the current 2023 tax year. Real estate taxes total $6,459,238.15, personal property taxes $3,356,383.84, railroad and utility state and local assessed taxes $1,918,192.89, and Howard County special levee and drainage district taxes $175,142.00.
The courthouse will be closed on Thursday, November 23, and Friday, November 24, for the Thanksgiving holiday. During Christmas, the collector’s office will be closed on Monday, December 25, and on Monday, January 1, 2024. The office is located on the north end of the courthouse. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and open during the noon hour.
